Nurofen Meltlets Self-Dissolving Tablets provide an extremely effective way to relieve pain caused by:
- headaches and migraines
- dental pain
- period pain
- rheumatic, muscular, and back pain
- a fever, cold or flu
Nurofen Meltlets Self-Dissolving Tablets contain the active ingredient ibuprofen, which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs work by reducing inflammation, fever and pain in the body.
Always take Nurofen Meltlets Self-Dissolving Tablets as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or one of our pharmacists has instructed you to.
- Start by taking two tablets, to see how they work for you.
- Place a tablet on your tongue, allow it to dissolve and then swallow. Do not chew the tablet.
- If necessary, take another one or two tablets at least four hours after your first dose.
- Continue taking one or two tablets every four hours, as needed. However, do not take more than six tablets in 24 hours.
This medicine can cause some side effects. If you develop the following signs, stop taking Nurofen Meltlets straight away and seek medical advice immediately:
- stomach pain
- indigestion, nausea, or heartburn
- signs of intestinal bleeding, including bright red stools or black tarry stools and vomiting blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds
- symptoms of kidney problems, including passing more or less urine, cloudy urine, blood in urine, back pain and/or swelling in the legs
- signs of aseptic meningitis, including neck stiffness, headaches, feeling sick or being sick
- a severe skin reaction known as DRESS syndrome, including a red, scaley skin rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes

Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to ibuprofen or if you:
- have had two or more episodes of a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding
- have experienced a worsening of asthma, a skin rash, an itchy/runny nose or facial swelling when previously taking ibuprofen, aspirin or similar medicines
- have phenylketonuria
- are in the last three months of pregnancy
- are taking other NSAIDs
- have severe kidney problems
- have breathing problems
- have heart problems, high blood pressure or a blood coagulation disorder
This medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years old.
Talk to your doctor or one of our pharmacists before taking this medicine if you:

are in the first six months of pregnancy, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding

have or have had asthma

have kidney, liver, heart or bowel problems

have high cholesterol or have previously had a heart attack or stroke

have a history of gastrointestinal disease e.g. ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease

have systemic lupus erythematosus
-
are a smoker
-
have phenylketonuria or are intolerant to phenylalanine
-
have an infection
-
are taking any other medicines, including:
-
anti-coagulants, e.g. aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid, warfarin or ticlopidine
- ACE-inhibitors, e.g. captopril
- beta blockers, e.g. atenolol medicines
- angiotensin-II receptor antagonists, e.g. losartan
- glycosides
- diuretics
- methotrexate, ciclosporin or tacrolimus
- lithium
- mifepristone
- zidovudine
This medicine may impair fertility in women. This is reversible when you stop taking it.
