  • What are Slow Sodium 600mg tablets?

    Slow Sodium 600mg Tablets are sodium tablets in a special slow-release form. These can be used for the treatment and prevention of sodium chloride deficiency. Sodium chloride is an essential electrolyte that helps your body maintain a variety of systems, including blood pressure.  

    How they work

    These tablets contain the active ingredient sodium chloride, which is released slowly into the body to increase sodium levels gradually.  

    How to use Slow Sodium 600mg tablets

    Always take Slow Sodium 600mg tablets as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or one of our pharmacists has instructed you to. Dosage recommendations include:
    • to prevent sodium chloride deficiency – 4-8 tablets per day
    • for severe sodium chloride deficiency – up to 20 tablets per day
    • to control muscle cramps during haemodialysis – 10-16 tablets
    Each tablet should be swallowed whole with approximately 70ml of water. Do not chew them.  

    Side effects

    There are no known side effects of taking Slow Sodium Tablets at the recommended dose. However, if you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

    Serious side effects

    You should seek emergency medical attention if you notice the following signs of a severe allergic reaction:
    • swelling of the face and throat
    • skin rash
    • breathing difficulties
    • loss of consciousness
     

    Who can’t use Slow Sodium tablets

    Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you:
    • have fluid retention
    • have heart disease or heart failure
    • have aldosteronism
    • are having treatment to produce salt and water loss, e.g., if you have fluid retention, heart failure or high blood pressure
     

    When to speak to a doctor or pharmacist

    Talk to your doctor or one of our pharmacists before taking this medicine if you:
    • are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding
    • have a condition of the intestines that may cause narrowing
    • struggle to drink enough water
    • are taking any other medicines, including those used to treat high blood pressure, such as:
      • furosemide
      • bumetanide
      • metolazone
    Please consult a healthcare professional if you plan to give this medicine to a child.  

    How to store Slow Sodium 600mg tablets

    Store this product below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
