Foundayo is a once daily, prescription only weight loss tablet developed by Eli Lilly, the company behind Mounjaro. It contains the active ingredient orforglipron, a small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist, that helped patients achieve meaningful weight loss in clinical trials when combined with healthy lifestyle changes.
As an oral tablet that can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, it's another alternative for those who dislike needles and a convenient option for people who struggle to remember to take medication.
Once-daily pill for weight loss that can be taken at any time of day, without food or water restrictions. Contains the active ingredient orforglipron. Patients in the ATTAIN-1 clinical trial lost an average of 12.4% of their starting body weight over 72 weeks. Foundayo was approved by the MHRA in August 2026, and is expected to be available by the end of the month
Orforglipron, the active ingredient in Foundayo, has been shown to help patients achieve an average of 12.4% weight lost over 72 weeks in the ATTAIN-1 clinical trial. The study had more than 3,100 adults without diabetes and was done across 9 different countries.
Almost half of the participants in the study lost at least 10% of their starting body weight on the highest dose, and the trial also noted reductions in:
- waist size
- cholesterol
- blood fats
- blood pressure
A follow-up study, ACHIEVE-4, studied Foundayo in adults with diabetes who were at a higher risk of heart disease which noted that Foundayo can also lead to reduced levels of inflammation.
Foundayo has the active ingredient orforglipron, a small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist, the same class of medicines as found in weight loss injections like Mounjaro and Wegovy.
These treatments work by mimicking the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone. By doing this, Foundayo can assist with:
- regulating appetite
- slowing digestion
- managing blood sugar levels
- delaying how quickly food leaves your stomach
All this means that Foundayo can support you on your weight loss journey by:
- quietening food noise
- making it easier to deal with the urge to snack between meals
- keeping you feeling fuller for longer, even as you eat less
Foundayo is a prescription-only medication. You'll only be able to get it following an online consultation, provided you're an adult who meets the requirements of:
- having a BMI of 30 or greater
- having a BMI of 27 or greater with at least one weight-related condition (like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or kidney disease)
Foundayo can be prescribed by a diabetes specialist as part of a treatment for type 2 diabetes, but we do not offer it for this alone from our clinic.
Foundayo is available in 6 strengths, starting at the initial dose of 0.8mg and ending at the highest dose of 17.2mg. You'll need to be on each dose for at least 30 days before increasing the strength of your medication. However, everyone's weight loss journey is individual, and you should only ever increase in dose if you feel ready to do so.
You can see an example of what your Foundayo dosing schedule might look like below:
| Stage | Daily dose |
|---|---|
| Month 1 | 0.8mg |
| Month 2 | 2.5mg |
| Month 3 | 5.5mg |
| Month 4 | 9mg |
| Month 5 | 14.5mg |
| Month 6+ | 17.2mg (maintenance) |
Foundayo should always be taken exactly as prescribed, in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
When using Foundayo:
-
Take one pill each day, with or without food.
-
Swallow each pill whole. Do not break, crush or chew the tablet.
-
Try to take the tablets at the same time each day. This can help make sure you've got a consistent level of medicine in your system throughout the day, unlocking better results.
What to do if you miss a dose?
If you miss taking your dose at your normal time, take it as soon as possible. However, you should never take more than one tablet per day.
If you miss treatment for 7 or more days in a row, you should speak with a healthcare professional before continuing.
Foundayo has received approval in the US from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), as well as in the UK by the MHRA. To achieve this the drug needs to have passed extensive safety tests in clinical trials and prove that it has a strong safety profile.
In the US, the FDA requested more information about the safety profile of the drug, to which Eli Lilly responded by releasing the ACHIEVE-4 trial, the longest Phase 3 study for the drug. This study showed that Foundayo has a good safety profile consistent with other GLP-1 class medicines.

Like any medication, taking Foundayo has a chance to cause side effects – though not everyone who takes the medication will experience these symptoms.
The ACHIEVE-4 study reported that the most common side effects of Foundayo are:
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- constipation
- indigestion
When to seek medical assistance
You should speak to a healthcare professional if you have any side effects that bother you or that do not go away.
Additionally, Foundayo might cause serious side effects in some. Contact a healthcare professional if you experience any of the following:
- pancreatitis (symptoms include severe pain in your stomach/abdomen that will not go away)
- hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
- changes in vision for those with type 2 diabetes
- gallbladder problems (symptoms include pain in the abdomen, fever and yellowing of skin or eyes)
Importantly, if there are any symptoms of an allergic reaction then medical help should be got immediately. If you are ever having a severe allergic reaction then you should call 999, and you should not drive yourself to a hospital.
You shouldn't take Foundayo if you have:
- a personal, or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- a severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh Class C)
- an allergy to orforglipron, or any of the ingredients in Foundayo.
Additionally, it's suggested that Foundayo may reduce how well birth control pills work, so you should use another type of birth control for 30 days after starting treatment and for 30 days after any dose increase.
Foundayo should be stored at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C, meaning it does not need to be refrigerated, unlike Eli Lilly's other GLP-1 weight loss treatment, Mounjaro.
It should be kept in a cool, dry place and kept in its original packaging to protect it from light.
Is Foundayo the same as orforglipron?
Yes, Foundayo is the brand name used for orforglipron, the active ingredient in the treatment. Both names refer to the same once‑daily oral GLP‑1 medicine.
Is Foundayo a GLP-1?
Yes. Foundayo contains the active ingredient orforglipron, a small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist. This means it can help regulate your blood sugar, digestion and appetite.
How often do you need to take Foundayo?
Foundayo is to be taken once a day. Unlike other oral weight loss treatments, it can be taken at any time of day with or without food or water.
How much are GLP-1 pills?
Currently we don't know how much Foundayo weight loss tablets will cost. However, the other GLP-1 weight loss tablets available at the moment, Wegovy pills, are currently costing between £99-£199 from private online pharmacies.
Will Foundayo be available on the NHS?
We're unable to confirm whether Foundayo will be available on the NHS, as it will first have to be approved by NICE. If it is approved, then it might be available on the NHS some time in 2027.
Is orforglipron as effective as Mounjaro?
Orforglipron is not as effective as Mounjaro when looking only at the average weight lost after 72 weeks. However, patients still lost an average of 12.4%, which still improves overall health and wellbeing.
Foundayo is an alternative way to achieve meaningful weight loss while offering the convenience of a once-daily pill, that has no food or drink restrictions.
