Newfoundland UTI Test

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) affect your urinary tract, including your bladder, urethra and kidneys. UTIs are among the most common types of infections to occur in the human body and are often caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract through the urethra.

Symptoms to look out for:

  • Pain or burning while urinating
  • Frequent urination and/or urge to urinate
  • Cloudy urine, blood in urine or strong smelling urine
  • Pain or cramping in the groin or lower abdomen

Instructions

  1. Remove the strip from the sealed pouch and hold absorbent tip in urine stream or in a collected urine sample for 1-2 seconds.
  2. Remove the tip from the urine and place the test stick on an absorbent material (e.g. paper towel) to remove excess urine.
  3. Read the result at 1 minute for nitrites and at 2 minutes for leukocytes.
  4. Match the colour of the test strip pads to the colour blocks on the chart provided to determine results. Do not interpret the results after 3 minutes.
