LoviOne is an oral emergency contraception pill. Also known as the morning after pill, it is effective in preventing an unplanned pregnancy after unprotected sex when your regular method of contraception has failed or not been used correctly, such as a split condom or forgetting to take more than one contraceptive pill. LoviOne is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when taken within 24 hours or 84% effective when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It's important to note that LoviOne is not suitable for use as a long-term method of contraception. If you need a regular method of contraception, you could choose Lovima – a progestogen-only mini pill that is up to 99% effective in preventing pregnancy when used correctly.
How does it work?
The active ingredient in LoviOne is levonorgestrel - a synthetic version of the naturally occurring hormone progesterone which is produced by the ovaries. Levonorgestrel is believed to stop or delay ovulation (the release of an egg). It may also stop sperm from fertilising an egg if it has already been released. In order to be effective, LoviOne needs to be taken as soon as possible. It is effective when taken within three days (72 hours) of unprotected sex. LoviOne does not interfere with your regular method of contraception.
LoviOne Ingredients
Each tablet contains the active ingredient of 1.5 mg levonorgestrel. Other ingredients include potato starch, maize starch, silica, colloidal anhydrous, magnesium stearate, talc and lactose monohydrate.
