  • What is the OraQuick HIV Self-Test?

    OraQuick HIV Self-Test is an easy-to-use, simple, and pain-free test for antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2. These antibodies can take up to three months to develop after exposure, so it is important to consider when you were last at risk. If you test too soon, the result may be inaccurate. As the most technically advanced HIV self-test available, this test can provide you with an accurate result within minutes. Best of all, it doesn’t involve blood tests, labs or any questions asked. This test kit includes the OraQuick HIV Self-Test Device, a tube containing buffer solution, a test strand, instructions, and a disposal bag.  

    How to use it

    To use the OraQuick HIV Self-Test:
    1. Do not eat or drink for 15 minutes before performing the test. Do not use oral cleaning products, such as toothpaste or mouthwash, for at least 30 minutes before performing the test.
    2. To start, gently swab the flat pad along your upper and lower gums.
    3. Put the test directly into the test tube, where indicated, in the upper portion of the test kit. The test window will turn pink within a few minutes.
    4. Wait at least 20 minutes before reading your results. Do not wait longer than 40 minutes to read your results.

    When to speak to a doctor or pharmacist

    Speak to your doctor or one of our pharmacists before using this HIV self-test if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding. OraQuick is accurate from three months onwards after exposure to HIV. For tests that are accurate for more recent possible exposure to HIV, you should contact your local sexual health clinic.  

    How to store this product

    Store this product in a cool, dry place, out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging.
