    • What is Dexamethasone/Neomycin/Acetic Acid Ear Spray?

Dexamethasone/Neomycin/Acetic Acid Ear Spray is a generic version of the branded Otomize ear spray for outer ear infections (otitis externa). Otomize has been discontinued. However, this generic version contains the same active ingredients, strengths, and formulation as the original, making it just as effective as Otomize. This is a prescription-only medicine in the UK. To purchase this ear spray, you can complete a simple online consultation with one of our clinicians, who can assess whether this treatment is right for you.

      How it works

This ear spray contains three active ingredients:
      • Dexamethasone: a corticosteroid (steroid) to calm your body’s immune response and reduce swelling and inflammation.
      • Acetic acid: an antibacterial agent which prevents bacteria from being able to grow, so the infection can’t spread.
      • Neomycin sulphate: an antibiotic which stops the bacteria causing the infection from making the proteins they need to survive.

How to use Dexamethasone/Neomycin/Acetic Acid Ear Spray

Always use this spray exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or one of our pharmacists has instructed you to.
      1. Shake the bottle well.
      2. Point the nozzle away from yourself and others and prime it by pressing it down several times until you see a fine spray.
      3. Gently place the nozzle tip into your ear.
      4. Press the pump once (each pump press gives one measured dose).
      5. Repeat three times per day (or as many times as your prescriber has told you to).
If you haven't used it for over a week, press the pump a few times again until you get a fine spray, then use the spray as normal. If you forget a dose, use the spray when you remember, then carry on as normal. Keep using it for two days after your symptoms have cleared up. You can remove the nozzle tip to clean it but click it back on afterwards and keep it on when spraying.

      Warning

This spray is for external use. Only use it on the outer ear canal. Do not use it anywhere other than the ear. Do not use it if you have a perforated ear drum or have a grommet fitted in the affected ear.
