  • What is Dermol Wash?

Dermol Wash is a soap substitute and cleanser ideal for anyone whose skin becomes irritated by regular soap or has a dry skin condition, such as eczema and dermatitis.

    How does Dermol Wash work?

Dermol Wash contains four active ingredients:
    • isopropyl myristate
    • liquid paraffin
    • benzalkonium chloride
    • chlorhexidine dihydrochloride
Isopropyl myristate and liquid paraffin are emollients that form a protective barrier over the skin. By locking moisture in, they help hydrate the skin. Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride are antimicrobials that kill harmful bacteria. They can help to prevent irritation and infection of broken skin.

    How to use Dermol Wash

Always use Dermol Wash as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or one of our pharmacists has instructed you to. Dermol Wash should be used as a direct replacement for regular soap or shower gel. It will not foam or lather. You should rinse your skin thoroughly after using it and pat your skin dry with a towel. Do not rub your skin, as this may lead to irritation.

    Dermol Wash side effects

Like all medicines, Dermol Wash can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Rarely, Dermol Wash can cause skin reactions in treated areas, including:
    • redness
    • irritation
    • itching
This reaction can intensify if Dermol Wash is used as a leave-on application in areas of folded skin, such as the groin or in the nappy area. You should stop using this product and tell your doctor or one of our pharmacists if:
    • your skin condition seems to look or feel worse
    • any of the side effects become unacceptable
    • you notice any other side effects not mentioned in the information leaflet
For more information on potential side effects, refer to the patient information leaflet. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
