  • What is Zidoval Vaginal Gel?

Zidoval is an antibiotic gel used to treat BV quickly and effectively. Typically, you just need to apply the gel once per day, for five days, for the treatment to be effective.

    How it works

Each gram of Zidoval Gel contains 7.5mg of the active ingredient metronidazole. Metronidazole is an antibiotic, which means it fights the bacteria that cause the BV infection. This helps your body to restore the natural balance of healthy bacteria in your vagina, so the infection can heal.

    How to use Zidoval Gel?

Always use Zidoval Gel exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or one of our pharmacists has instructed you to.
    1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
    2. Open the tube of gel and screw the end of an applicator onto the open end of the tube.
    3. Gently squeeze the tube of gel to fill the applicator – the plunger of the applicator will move as you fill it up and will stop when it’s full.
    4. Remove the applicator from the tube and replace the cap on the tube.
    5. Insert the end of the applicator into your vagina, like you would insert a tampon, placing it as far into the vagina as it will comfortably go. You can do this lying down or with one leg raised if this is easier for you.
    6. Once the applicator is inserted, release the gel by slowly pushing on the plunger until it stops.
    7. Remove the applicator and throw it away, then wash your hands again.
Use one full applicator of gel a day for five days at bedtime, using a fresh applicator each time. If your BV hasn’t improved after five days, you should speak to your doctor. It’s important to use the entire course of metronidazole prescribed, even if your symptoms go away, as this will help to prevent the infection from coming back.
