  • What are Perrigo Esomeprazole Heartburn & Acid Reflux Control capsules?

    Perrigo Esomeprazole Heartburn & Acid Reflux Control Capsules provide quick relief for the symptoms of indigestion and acid reflux. Just one capsule can ease symptoms like heartburn, a sore throat, and that sour taste in your mouth caused by reflux.  

    How they work

    These capsules contain the active ingredient esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Esomeprazole reduces the amount of stomach acid you produce, which prevents acid from travelling into your food pipe. This gives your food pipe time to heal from previous irritation, while reducing the symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.  

    How to use these capsules

    Always take Perrigo Esomeprazole Heartburn & Acid Reflux Control Capsules as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or one of our pharmacists has instructed you. Take one capsule per day, at any time of the day, for up to 14 days in a row. You may not notice any improvement in your symptoms until day two or three of your treatment. Do not take this treatment for more than 14 days in a row unless you have been advised to do so by your doctor or one of our pharmacists.  

    Esomeprazole side effects

    Like all medicines, Perrigo Esomeprazole Heartburn & Acid Reflux Control Capsules can cause some side effects, including:
    • headaches
    • diarrhoea
    • stomach ache
    • constipation
    • wind
    • nausea
    • vomiting
    • benign growths or polyps in the stomach
    If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.  

    Serious side effects

    Stop taking this medicine straight away and seek medical advice if you experience any of the following symptoms:
    • reddened skin with blisters and bleeding in the eyes, lips, mouth, nose, and genitals
    • signs of liver problems, including yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice), dark urine, and tiredness
    Seek emergency medical attention if you notice the signs of a severe allergic reaction, including:
    • swelling of the face and throat
    • skin rash
    • breathing difficulties
    • loss of consciousness
     

    Who can’t take these capsules?

    Do not take these capsules if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. This medication is not suitable for:
    • anyone under 18 years old
    • pregnant or breastfeeding people
     

    When to speak to a doctor or pharmacist

    Talk to your doctor or one of our pharmacists before taking this medicine if you:
    • are trying to get pregnant
    • have had a stomach ulcer or stomach surgery in the past
    • have jaundice or severe liver problems
    • have severe kidney problems
    • have ever had a skin reaction after taking a similar medication
    • are taking any other medicines, including:
      • medicines containing nelfinavir
      • ketoconazole, voriconazole and itraconazole
      • clarithromycin
      • erlotinib
      • methotrexate
      • digoxin
      • atazanavir or saquinavir
      • citalopram, imipramine or clomipramine
      • diazepam
      • phenytoin
      • blood thinners, e.g. warfarin
      • cilostazol
      • cisapride
      • rifampicin
      • tacrolimus
      • St. John’s wort
    If your symptoms get worse or you do not notice any improvement after taking this medication for 14 days in a row, you should speak to your doctor.  

    How to store these capsules

    Store these capsules below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
