What is Rhinolast Nasal Spray?
Rhinolast nasal spray contains the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride in a 0.1% strength spray.
Azelastine is an antihistamine which work by preventing the effects of histamine, which is produced by the body.
Histamine causes a chain reaction that results in allergic symptoms such as itchy eyes, sneezing and a runny nose. Azelastine blocks histamine receptors and so stops this chain reaction.
Antihistamines therefore help to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and Perennial allergic rhinitis (produces symptoms all year round).
For more information about Allergies, click here.
When used as a nasal spray azelastine can act directly on histamine receptors in the membranes in the nose, which allows it to start relieving allergic symptoms within 15 minutes.
If necessary, it can be used alongside any oral antihistamine you may also be taking.
Rhinolast nasal spray should begin working to alleviate allergic rhinitis symptoms around 15 minutes after you use it.

Do not take Rhinolast
if you are allergic to the active ingredient, azelastine hydrochloride or any other ingredients contained in rhinolast.
How to use Rhinolast nasal spray
You should always use Rhinolast spray exactly as prescribed and as directed in the patient information leaflet and never exceed the stated dose.
Before using the spray for the first time, squeeze down the collar several times until an even spray emerges. Take care to avoid getting the spray in your eyes.
The usual dose for adults and children aged six years and over is one spray into each nostril twice a day, when needed to relieve symptoms.
Most people only need to use Rhinolast for a short amount of time to relieve their allergies, but you can use it every day to relieve your symptoms for as long as you’re exposed to the allergen, for example throughout the pollen season. You should stop using it once your symptoms have eased.
If symptoms persist despite treatment, get advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Any remaining nasal spray should be disposed of six months after the spray is first opened, because it could be contaminated with dirt or germs. Write the date you open your nasal spray on the bottle so you know when to throw it away. Dispose of carefully, preferably by returning to your pharmacy.
Rhinolast should begin working within around 15 minutes. There is no need to use it before you experience symptoms.
Check if you have hay fever
Symptoms of hay fever include:
sneezing and coughing
a runny or blocked nose
itchy, red or watery eyes
itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears
loss of smell
pain around your temples and forehead
If you have asthma, you might also:
have a tight feeling in your chest
be short of breath
wheeze and cough
Hay fever will last for weeks or months, unlike a cold, which usually goes away after 1 to 2 weeks.
How to treat hay fever yourself
There’s currently no cure for hay fever and you can’t prevent it. But you can do things to ease your symptoms when the pollen count is high.
put Vaseline around your nostrils to trap pollen
wear wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting into your eyes
shower and change your clothes after you’ve been outside to wash pollen off
stay indoors whenever possible
keep windows and doors shut as much as possible
vacuum regularly and dust with a damp cloth
buy a pollen filter for the air vents in your car and a vacuum cleaner with a special HEPA filter
cut grass or walk on grass
spend too much time outside
keep fresh flowers in the house
smoke or be around smoke – it makes your symptoms worse
dry clothes outside – they can catch pollen
let pets into the house if possible – they can carry pollen indoors
