How do you use Blistex cold sore cream?
Start treatment at the earliest sign of a cold sore (symptoms such as, tingling, redness and itching).
Adults and children over 12 years: Apply the cream in a thin layer over the cold sore. Apply the cream every
2 hours during the day, for 4 days. Always wash your hands before and after applying the cream.
Use in children
Blistex Cold Sore Cream is not recommended for the treatment of children under 12 years of age.
If you use more Blistex Cold Sore Cream than you should.
There are unlikely to be any harmful effects if you have used a large amount of cream on your skin all at once,
although some irritation of the skin may occur.
If you forget to use Blistex Cold Sore Cream
Apply the next application as soon as you remember and carry on as before. Do not apply more cream to make
up for a forgotten dose.
If you accidentally swallow Blistex Cold Sore Cream
Fenistil is not harmful if accidentally swallowed and no treatment is necessary but it may cause irritation in the
mouth. Please contact your doctor or pharmacist if you are concerned.
What general precautions should you take when you have a cold sore
To prevent the spreading of cold sores.
Remember cold sores are infectious.
To prevent the virus infecting other parts of the body, or passing the virus to other people, it is important when you have a cold sore to:
Avoid kissing, especially children. Use only your own towel and face cloth and do not share cutlery, cups, glasses, etc.
Avoid breaking the blisters or picking sores, as this may prolong the healing process.
Don’t touch your eyes, as the virus can cause a serious condition if it gets into the eyes.
Do not give this cream to other people, even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

Cream can cause side effects, although
not everybody gets them.
For the frequency of occurrence of side
effects, the following phrases are used:
very common (more than 1 in 10 users),
common (between 1 in 100 users and 1 in
10 users), uncommon (between 1 in 1000
users and 1 in 100 users), rare (between 1
in 10000 users and 1 in 1000 users, very
rare (in less than 1 in 10000 users).
Nervous system problems:
Very common: headache.
Common: skin disorders including dry skin,
skin rashes and facial swelling occurring
where the cream has been applied.
If a more severe skin reaction occurs
you should cease treatment, and if the
problem does not disappear you should
contact your doctor.
