Day & Night Nurse Capsules are for the 24 hour relief of the major symptoms of colds, chills and influenza. These symptoms include headache, shivers, aches and pains, blocked or runny nose, sore throat pain and a dry, tickly, non-productive cough.
The Day Nurse Capsules contain an analgesic to relieve pain and fever, a decongestant which helps you breathe more easily and a cough suppressant that helps relieve dry or tickly coughs.
The Night Nurse Capsules contain an analgesic to relieve pain and fever, an antihistamine which dries up your nose and helps you breath more easily and a cough suppressant that helps relieve dry or tickly coughs.

How to take Day & Night Nurse Capsules:
- Follow the instructions given on your own pack and in the leaflet
- Do not take more than the recommended dose
- After taking day-time capsules, wait at least 4 hours before taking the night-time capsules
- Do not take the night-time capsules during the day - take them only at bedtime
- You should only take 1 dose of night-time capsules per night
Adults (including the elderly) and children aged 12 years and over:
Day-Time dosage:
- 2 yellow/orange capsules to be taken with a drink every 4 hours
- up to a maximum of 3 doses throughout the day if needed
Night-Time dosage:
- 2 green/white capsules to be taken with a drink at bedtime
- Not to be given to children under 12 years except on medical advice
- If symptoms persist consult your doctor
Do not exceed the stated dose: It would be harmful to take more than the doses stated on the pack and in the leaflet.

- 18 yellow/orange day-time capsules
- 6 green/ white night-time capsules
Day & Night Nurse Capsules ingredients:
Each yellow/orange (daytime) capsule contains: Paracetamol 500 mg, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg and pholcodine 5mg as the active ingredients.
They also contain: sodium starch glycollate, magnesium stearate (E572), sodium lauryl sulphate, gelatin and colours quinoline yellow (E104), allura red (E129), titanium dioxide (E171), and printing ink opacode black (containing shellac (E904), iron oxide (E172), soya lecithin, antifoam DC 1510).
- Allura red is an azo dye that may cause allergic reactions
Each green/ white (night-time) capsule contains: Paracetamol 500mg, promethazine hydrochloride 10mg and dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5mg as the active ingredients.
They also contain: lactose, dimethicone, colloidal anhydrous silica, gelatin and colours erythrosine (E127), patent blue V (E131), quinoline yellow (E104) and titanium dioxide (E171) and printing ink opacode black (containing shellac (E904), iron oxide (E172), soya lecithin, antifoam DC 1510).
Check before you take this medicine
- Important: Day & Night Nurse Capsules are a complete cold and flu treatment
- Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products
- Do not take with other flu, cold or decongestant products, or with alcohol
The green/white (night-time) capsules may cause drowsiness, and are intended to be taken only at bedtime. However, if you are affected you should not drive or operate machinery.
Do not take Day & Night Nurse Capsules if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients
- You are pregnant or breast feeding
- You suffer from high blood pressure, epilepsy, hyperexcitability, overactive thyroid, enlarged prostate, heart, kidney or liver problems, glaucoma, bronchitis, asthma or other similar respiratory problems or diabetes
- You are taking drugs for depression called monoamine oxidase inhibitors MAOI's prescribed by your doctor or hospital, or have taken them within the last two weeks
Talk to your doctor first If:
- You are under the care of your doctor or are receiving prescribed medicines
- You are taking medicines to thin the blood (anticoagulants e.g. warfarin)
- You are taking medicines which make you drowsy, or have been prescribed for anxiety or to help you sleep
If you are pregnant or breast feeding: Do not take this product if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
Overdose: Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
Side-effects: Most people taking Day Nurse Capsules find they cause them no problems. However rarely they may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation, stomach pain, headache, ringing in the ears, irritability, nightmares, loss of appetite, difficulty in passing urine, rapid heart rate, shaking and skin rashes. Drowsiness, dizziness, movement difficulties, dry mouth, blurred vision, disorientation, restlessness may also occasionally occur. Blood changes have very rarely been reported. Occasionally some people may get skin rashes, other allergic effects or become extra sensitive to sunlight. These effects should go away if you stop taking the capsules.
If you are concerned about these effects, or if Day & Night Nurse Capsules affect you in any other way, stop taking them and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
