Zanprol Tablets contain 10 mg of the active ingredient omeprazole, which belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors and works by preventing your stomach from producing too much acid.

Zanprol Tablets give long lasting relief of acid reflux and heartburn.

Heartburn and acid reflux are caused by stomach acid rising up the food pipe, resulting in a burning sensation in the chest and throat. This can be accompanied by a bitter taste in the mouth.

Zanprol Tablets Directions:

Take the tablets before a meal. The tablets should not be chewed or crushed; they should be swallowed whole with plenty of water.

Adults 18 years and over: Initially take 2 tablets once daily. If your symptoms improve, reduce the dose to 1 tablet daily. If your symptoms return, take 2 tablets once daily. The lowest dose that controls your symptoms should always be used.

These tablets will start to suppress acid in 1-2 hours, but will not give instant relief from acid reflux and heartburn. You should take the tablets for 3-4 days to achieve maximum results.

• Do not give to children under 18 years of age
• Do not exceed the stated dose

If no relief is obtained within two weeks consult your doctor. If you need to take Zanprol Tablets continuously for more than 4 weeks to control your symptoms or if your symptoms reappear shortly after you stop taking the tablets, talk to your doctor because your symptoms may be a sign of a more serious disease.

Overdose: As with all medicines, if you take more tablets than recommended, you should get medical advice immediately.

Zanprol Tablets gastro-resistant tablet contains active ingredient:

• Omeprazole 10 mg

Other ingredients are: lactose monohydrate, sodium starch glycollate, sodium stearate, sodium stearyl fumarate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) acetate succinate, Sepisperse AP-3527 (containing propylene glycol, titanium dioxide (E171), red iron oxide (E172), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, yellow iron oxide (E172)), talc, triethyl citrate, sodium hydroxide, sodium lauryl sulphate and carnauba wax.

Do not take Zanprol Tablets if:

• you are allergic to omeprazole or any of the other ingredients
• you are pregnant or breast feeding

Talk to your doctor first if:

• you have had to take a heartburn or indigestion remedy continuously for 4 or more weeks to control your symptoms
• you have kidney or liver problems
• you are aged over 45 years with new or recently changed symptoms
• you have unintended weight loss, anaemia, bleeding of the stomach, difficulty or pain on swallowing, persistent vomiting or vomiting with blood, a lump in your stomach area, jaundice, or have previously had a gastric ulcer or stomach surgery
• you regularly see your doctor for other complaints or conditions
• you are due to have an endoscopy

If Zanprol Tablets make you sleepy, do not drive or operate machinery.

If you have suffered from repetitive heartburn or indigestion symptoms for some time remember to see your doctor regularly.

If you are taking other medicines:

Please inform your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking diazepam (for your nerves), phenytoin (for epilepsy), tacrolimus (a drug used after organ transplants), cilostazol (for blood circulation problems) or warfarin (for thinning the blood), digoxin (for the heart), itraconazole, ketoconazole or voriconazole (for fungal infections) as omeprazole may affect the way your body works with these drugs.

Do not take Zanprol Tablets with other 'acid suppressors' such as an H2 antagonist (e.g. ranitidine, famotidine).

If you are about to undergo a 13C-Urea breath test, tell your doctor that you are taking Zanprol Tablets, as it might interfere with the results of the test.

Side-effects:

Like all medicines, Zanprol Tablets may sometimes cause side effects.

These are usually mild and go away when you stop taking this medicine: skin rash, itchy skin, headache, diarrhoea or constipation, feeling or being sick, wind, stomach ache, dizziness, feeling faint or pins and needles.

There have been very rare reports of: sensitivity to light, severe allergic skin reactions with skin blistering, swollen lips, swelling or soreness of the mouth and throat, breathlessness, collapse; dry mouth; hair loss; sleepiness or difficulty sleeping; sore joints and muscles; blurred vision; swollen limbs; aggression; increased sweating; breast enlargement; impotence; blood disorders (tiredness, easy bruising, being more prone to infection); taste disorders; high fever; wheezing; feeling confused or more sleepy (if you already have severe liver disease); kidney or liver problems.

Some very ill patients have reported feeling confused; nervous; depressed or hallucinate.

If you suffer from any of these or any other unusual or unexpected symptoms, stop taking the tablets and tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

You may find that changing your lifestyle may improve your health or even stop you getting acid reflux or heartburn altogether.

Changes you can try include:

• Stop smoking
• Avoid a stressful lifestyle where possible
• Eat smaller portions of less fatty food
• Avoid drinking too much alcohol
• Avoid eating just before going to bed
• Use several pillows at night to keep your head higher than your stomach and prevent acid from rising up the foodpipe
