Removing your medicine from the protective film
- Tear off one suppository from the strip
- The suppository is sandwiched between two layers of film. This film separates into two at the pointed end of the suppository. Grasp one piece of film between the thumb and forefinger of each hand
- Pull apart firmly and slowly
Using your medicine
Aways follow the instructions on the label, If you do not understand anything, ask the pharmacist or go and see your doctor.
Dosage
- Adults and children over 12 years: One suppository moistened with water should be inserted into the rectum (back passage).
- These suppositories must not be taken orally
- If you are still constipated after 3 days of treatment, you should consult your doctor
- Do not insert more than one suppository at a time.
- If you or a child accidentally swallow a suppository or insert too many, you should talk to your doctor.
What's in your medicine:
Glycerin suppositories come in one strength, containing 70% w/w of the active ingredient Glycerol PhEur. They are semi-clear to opaque, torpedo-shaped suppositories.
- The suppositories also contain gelatin and water
- Glycerol is one of a group of medicines called laxatives
Before using your medicine:
Make sure you go and see your doctor if you
- are diabetic (because of the risk of dehydration), for instance, you have been vomiting or sweating a lot
- If you see a doctor or go into a hospital, let them know what medicines you are taking or using
After using your medicine:
Like many medicines, Glycerin Suppositories may occasionally cause side-effects in some patients, particularly when you first start using them. These effects are due to the dehydrating actions of the suppositories and may include, the lowering of blood sugar levels (you may feel faint or lightheaded), changes in heart rhythm and diabetic coma.
If you get these or any other unusual effects, see your doctor immediately and seek advice.
