How To Prevent Colds & Flu (Blog)
The cold and flu season is with us again now that the days are getting shorter.
Why do some people seem to get cold after cold and others hardly ever suffer? What’s the secret? Well, there are quite a lot of things you can do to prevent you gettings colds and flu this winter, or at least to stack the odds very much in your favour, and now is just the right time to get started.
The most effective preventative seems to be Vitamin D. There has been an explosion of research on Vitamin D in the last few years which has revealed that Vitamin D acts on most cells in the body in one way or another. In fact it acts much more like a multi-functional hormone that a simple vitamin. There is even debate if it should still be regarded as a vitamin, because it is produced naturally in the skin by the action of sunlight on Vitamin A. The problem is that we don’t expose our skins to sunlight much in the winter, and so our Vitamin D levels drop, and Vitamin D plays an essential role in strengthening our immune response. Just the thing we need in the winter to stop cold and flu viruses taking hold and developing into infections. Vitamin D3 supplements taken at 800 units a day are the best way to protect yourself from winter ailments.
There are many other things to do to keep colds and flu at bay, such as Vitamin C, Echinacea, Probiotics and Garlic. Read more about how to prevent colds and flu.
